Golden Globes 2013: One Night, Two Standout Makeup Trends!

Golden Globes 2013: One Night, Two Standout Makeup Trends!

I don’t know about the rest of you ladies, but the Golden Globes is my party makeup inspiration! This year, two big makeup trends stood out – smoky eyes and statement lips. Various takes on these two trends were experimented and played with by the stars. Makeup artists share with us the how-to in getting these two sexy and sophisticated looks!

Smoky Eyes

Claire Danes’ makeup artist, Matin Maulawizada, created a "sexy, fun look" for the actress. "I decided to go with a smoky eye and not a red lip since the dress was so red" said Maulawizada of the Versace gown.

Maulawizada used Laura Mercier Caviar Eye Liner in Black to "create depth and shape" before applying Laura Mercier Tightline Cake Eye Liner in Black Ebony to "deepen the lash line". He then used Laura Mercier Kohl Eye Pencil in Black Gold to "intensify the depth and to create a contrast with Claire’s blue eyes". He finished the look with plenty of black mascara. Claire’s dramatic makeup definitely complemented her dramatic dress!

Makeup artist, Mary Phillips, created Jennifer Lopez’s smoky eye using several colours from the L’Oréal  Paris Colour Riche Eye Shadow Quads. A soft grey was washed over the eye with a hint of black shadow on the outer corners. A pretty nude lipstick was then used to finish off this look. Phillips used L’Oréal Paris Colour Caresse Shine Satin in Eternally Nude. This look is a total classic!

Jennifer Lawrence carries off a simple, yet sultry makeup look. Her makeup artist, Jillian Dempsey, layered up a warm blend of gold and coffee colours before lining the eyes with Chanel Automatic Liquid eyeliner in Black and multiple coats of L’Oréal  Paris Telescopic Shocking Extensions Mascara in Blackest Black. Jennifer makes this trend look effortless!

Statement Lips

Jessica Alba won the accolade for best makeup looks of the night. Makeup artist Lauren Anderson used Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Riviera, a bright velvety, tangerine shade. Anderson took Alba’s peach Oscar de la Renta gown as inspiration for the pop of matte lipstick. "I loved the contrast between her glowing skin and the matte orange lip. It’s an almost tropical pop of colour that’s not an exact match for the dress but close." What a hit this was!

Another Jessica and another statement lip! The deep berry pop of colour was L’Oréal Paris Colour Caresse Shine Stain in Berry Persistent. Jessica Chastain’s makeup artist, Kristofer Buckle, was inspired by "watercolor as opposed to painting". However, Jessica wanted a bold lip to off-set the pastel hue of her gown. This trend is too hot for words!

Get it? Got it? Good! Now that you know how they did it, it’s your turn to play around and experiment. Go ahead ladies… Set that Golden Globes makeup trend!
