BeneMania has taken swept over Mzansi like gale force winds in the fair Cape so when they launched in Sandton City two weeks ago, I couldn’t help myself and picked up a few things. (breaking my no-buy, which I am happy to say, I have stuck to since. This will be going on for THREE months, God help me!)
I have always wanted to try the Benefit Hoola Bronzer because I never picked it up while Benefit was here a few years ago. I was going to pick up the full size but my deep set, sunken-into-my skull eyes darted to the display and the Do The Hoola Beyond Bronze kit caught my eye.
I bought this because I wanted to try the Hoola bronzer before I committed to buying a full size because let’s keep it real, Benefit cosmetics is sssspppensive. More importantly, I realized that paying a bit more for this than I would have the full-sized bronzer, I’d also get to try 4 other deluxe samples sized products in this kit. I didn’t need a degree in actuarial science (no disrespect to my hubby lol!) to know that this was a sweet deal! And ity bity products looked so cute and compact making it perfect for travel.
So, what’s in the box?
The box has a mirror with a little booklet that gives you instructions and tips and tricks on how to use these products, which I always appreciate.
Dew The Hoola:
This a sneak peak into a new product that is said to be launching next year. It is the cream version of the Hoola bronzer. It comes in a little plastic bottle with a pump. It has a smooth thick consistency and looks kind of well, err . . . it resembles mustard . . . like dark mustard.
It smells divine and once blended out it adds a sheer radiance with a hint on warmth to the skin. The finish is beautiful and it dries to a comfortable feel. Benefit does say that you can create a soft contour with it. In my opinion, it is too warm for that and on my skin would never show up to be worn in that way. The Tips and Tricks insert does show you where to place the product so you get a contouring guide, if you will. (7ml)
Hoola Bronzer and a tiny brush
The ‘RIGHT’ toned bronzer is perfect for ALL skin tones.
On lighter skin, it will work great as a contour shade. It is neither too warm nor too cool.
On brown beauties, dusting this matte bronzing powder over cheeks, the bridge of your nose, forehead and chin on brown girls like me add warmth to your complexion and if you’re about an NC40 – NC42, this will show up when you contour.
This also make for a great eye shadow, perfect for blending out colours in the crease. (3g of product).
They’re Real Mascara
They hype over this mascara is scary but I like the mascara. The brush on this wand is plastic and huge. It has short spikes on the flexible brush to ensure that you get all them lashes nice and coated. It lengthens amazingly but I didn’t feel that it gave me a lot of volume. Benefit says to position wand horizontally and wiggle from base to tip of lashes for length beyond belief. Note, have really good eye make up remover to remove this. Do not use methylated spirits. I use the Benefit They’re Real eye make up remover and it works beautifully.

I love lip balm but generally stick to Blistex. This balm smells like sweets and is very hydrating. It has a slight tint that even showed up on my pigmented lips.
You can wear on bare lips or over your favorite lip stain.
Ultra Plush Lip gloss in Hoola
This lip gloss is the prettiest, nude/peach/bronze lip gloss with specks of glitter that I have ever seen and I hate lip gloss. This looks natural and subtle and like most things in this kit is perfection. It is thick and smells great. It is a bit sticky but it’s not annoying.
It truly gives a natural gloss even over pigmented lips like mine (you know 50 shades of pink and purple) and layered over top of a nude lipstick, will give you the perfect selfie pout! (6,5ml of product)
This is a great kit to try out some fab products and the deluxe sample sizes are pretty generous. So what will I be picking up when these finish? The Hoola Bronzer for sure.
Price of the kit: R455
Where to buy: Selected Edgars stores with Benefit counters.
You can buy Benefit cosmetics at www.redsquare.co.za but I haven't seen these kits (there are two others that I have bought).
