For Keeps sake! MAC holiday collection eye bag

For Keeps sake! MAC holiday collection eye bag

When MAC launched their Heirloom Mix and Keepsakes holiday collections for 2014 last week, I had to check it out.

I love MAC holiday gift sets, which are generally a bit expensive because of their limited edition packaging or products, but you can really score good deals on some of the sets.

I had to get the MAC Keepsakes Plum Eye Bag; I’d been lusting after.

The packaging. .  Oh my soul! Small, black and glittery, with a strip of black pearls on the sides of the bag. The plastic zip tag (I wish this were metal though) has a moulded image of an aristocrat’s face on the front and MAC written on the back. It screams, ‘let them eat cake’, you know what I mean.

This is by far the best hols collection packaging I’ve seen.

So, what’s in the bag?

You get an In Extra Dimension eyes shadow duo, a Powerpoint eye pencil and In Extra Dimension Mascara.

The eye shadow duo is made up of Triple Impact and Round Midnight.

Triple Impact is described as an “opalescent pink”. I have never seen a shade like this, mother of pearl, it is gorgeous. I can see myself using it as a highlighter shade, or as a topper to breathe multi-pearlescent life into a matte shadow.

Round Midnight is described as a, purple-burgundy with a soft frosted finish. When swatched, it showed up as a shimmery brown with hints of plum. It’s still a highly pigmented gorgeous shade but I was hoping to get a plum shade with the plum eye bag, I’m just saying . . .

The eye shadow duo is more of an accent and highlight duo in my opinion. I don’t see myself wearing them paired together with nothing else. The Permaplum Powerpoint pencil is described as a deep plum with pink shimmer. This is a permanent product. MAC Powerpoint pencils can draw a line to perfection and is both waterproof and longwearing. It did glide on smoothly and didn’t tug at my eyelids and the colour did have some shimmer, though it wasn’t pink.

You don’t have to worry about ‘Panda eyes’ with this pencil, it stays put all day long.

I do wear the In Extra Dimension Lash Mascara. There are better mascaras out there but if you haven’t tried a MAC mascara, this one will definitely give you volume, curl and blacker than black lashes. This guy doesn’t play around so don’t get a fright when you do see the size of the brush, it is very long and big!

There is also a Smokey eye bag and a Nude eye bag, which some may find more versatile. That’s my general overview.

Price: R820

Where to buy: MAC FFS and MAC counters nationwide. I haven’t seen it online yet, but I’m sure it will soon be up. To be fair, I know this is very expensive; I was shocked at the price too. I guess it’s the beautiful packaging and the glitter bag that upped the price. That said, it’s a great introduction to In Extra Dimension. I just wish more thought went into the mix.
