Cook Your Makeup, Darling!

Cook Your Makeup, Darling!

Makeup "cooking" is a term from the Drag community and it took men to teach women a thing or 2 about makeup. So what is this term, "cook" and what does it really mean for our makeup applications? If you've ever watch Ru Pauls Drag Race, you may already be familiar with this term.

To "cook" your makeup means to let your foundation and/or concealer sit on the face for 10-20 minutes depending on the amount of time you have available. By doing so, your own body heat melts the product into the skin and allows the products to oxidize (meaning it changes colour and texture). The emollient ingredients will absorb in to the skin leaving behind more pigment for us to blend thus resulting in a smoother, more pore-less finish that is longer lasting.

Try styling your hair while you wait for your makeup to cook, this should save you some time. Once you've "cooked" your makeup, apply the setting powder of your choice. You'll now have a more budge proof/crease proof makeup than ever before!
