Barely impressed with Revlon Skinlights

Barely impressed with Revlon Skinlights

(This is for you Miss Amy as requested )

You BB beauties have perhaps gathered that I have many vices. Buying highlighters and illuminators in all shapes, sizes, textures, you name it, I want it and always need them in my life and my Yorkie's life too!

So I had to check out the Revlon Photoready Skinlights Face Illuminator.

I got it in the shade Bare 001

I know, you think I’ve lost my mind again because it is the lightest shade and I’m a brown. However, the Revlon Photoready Skinlights Face Illuminator in Bare light 100 is great for all skin tones, yes that’s right, really it is J

I’d never have guessed because it looks beige (that really dull matte beige that reminds you of hospital walls) when you squeeze it straight from the tube. But the magic happens when you blend it and it transforms into a subtle shade of light champagne gold.

When mixed with a medium coverage liquid foundation, I used the MAC Prolong wear foundation  (NC40); it gave a beautiful natural radiance to the skin. It was a healthy glow, no shimmer or sparkles in sight no grease!

I wore it alone on my bare face and it did emphasize my pores.

When I mixed it in with a little MAC Face and Body (C5) it still emphasized my pores but it gave off a bit more glow.

If you want to use it with a tinted moisturizer, BB cream or any foundation with sheer-light coverage, you may want to keep this in mind.  Pores, pores, pores!

In terms of spot highlighting, this leaves a pretty sheen that once again gives off a   ‘barely there’ finish.

However, I found it difficult to apply it as a spot highlight.

I dabbed a tiny amount on the highest point of my cheekbones and tried to blend it in - but my foundation did the waltz.

Before it did the electric slide, I spritzed my face with MAC’s Fix+ plus and blended it over with a small stippling brush. While the result was pretty, I felt I’d spent too much time trying to get the illuminator to work for me.

This product does not wow me; I’m not jumping up and down or trading my car in to get it. I’m definitely not going to repurchase it or the other shades, (there are two: Peach Light best for very light skin tones and Bronze light for bronzed tanned look or for darker complexion).

However, I will use it when I’m going for a ‘I woke up like this’ look or if my Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector is out of reach.

This product is perfect for those wanting a natural, radiant, dewy look. Great for everyday wear.

The Revlon Photoready Skinlights Face Illuminator does a good job, bar the spot highlighting fiasco. It’s just not great and doesn’t blow my hair back

It is affordable for a liquid highlighter and a little goes a long way.

I really wanted to like it but it was just barely there . . .

Where to buy: Revlon counters across the country, or

Price:  Prices vary but are about R200 each for 30ml
