All about NOTHING with Essence!

All about NOTHING with Essence!

Essence All about nude palette

Sometimes you find little gems at the Essence display counter, and I’m finding this happen more and more often . . . and sometimes you find duds . . .

The Essence All About Eyes Nude (01) nude has six colours in the palette. The name of the palette is emblazoned across. You can easily see the shades through the cover, so I was bedazzled by the shimmery pastel feminine shades, which reminded me of my favourite shades in the Urban Decay Naked palette. So I picked it up.

Based on the swatches, lets get into the shades:

Top row left to right.

Shade 1: This is a very frosty champagne/white gold colour, which will work great as an inner corner or brow bone highlighter.

Shade 2: This is a muted browny/pink matte I thought it would work best as a transition shade but when swatched, it was a bit chalky but I could live with that.

Shade 3: In pan, this looks like a shimmery taupe/pewter shade but when swatched, it is almost identical to shade 1. That was shocking. .  I would have liked it to be true to pan.

Bottom Row (left to right)

Shade 4: Icy metallic pink with a high frost finish.

Shade five:  A taupe with slight shimmer. I’d say it’s in-between a matte and a shimmer shade.  Can be used both as a transition color or to define the crease.

Shade 6: This was probably my favourite shade: a deep brown/copper shimmer shade. Great for defining the outer part of the eye.  I imagined this would be great to create a smokey eye.

The colour selection is great, with the mix of pastel for fresh looks and neutral shades of brown and copper browns to create smoldering eyes.

It’s great for both night and day . . . or so I thought . . .

The morning I decided test drive this baby I prepped my lids MAC paint pot in Soft Ochre. I decided to go with a neutral look.

Using shades 1 and a highlighter shade 3 all over the eyeshade 3 on the lid and shade 6 on the outer corner. I tried to create a smokey eye.

On the lid I used shade 5 a third of my eyelid and shade 3 towards the inner corner.

When I blended it out on the, the colours looked like mud, there was no distinction it blended away. Ooooh, the deception. Note, I piled the shadow on my lids, like I build up 5 layers to get some colour pay off and did it fade, well it didn’t really show up for it to fade. But the muddy colour did leave a lasting impression

There was very little fall out but I noticed dents in the eye shadow probably from too much of use after first use.

The application is smooth but the colour payoff is little or non-existent.

I’d buy this if you have money to waste or if you like to hit pan in a week and a half, and I'm stretching that time frame.

Dupes: I hope they never make one like this.
