Sports Luxe!

The Sports Luxe fashion trend was one of the biggest to hit fashion week runways in 2014. In 2015, this look has made its way onto the beauty scene. For the face, makeup artists have been gravitating towards a luminescent, post-workout flush while the focus on hair has been sleek wet looks, low slung ponytails and chic ballerina buns.

The Post-Workout Flush

To look radiant, as if you’ve just stepped out of the gym, is the goal here and the way to achieve this in a flattering way is by creating naturally radiant, dewy looking skin. The face as a whole is kept fairly bare with almost freshly pinched rosy cheeks while the lips have a coral plumpness.

To create the dewy skin look, we recommend a good illuminating moisturiser like MAC’s Strobe Cream (R360 at MAC stores nationwide). This gem is packed with essential vitamins and a substantial dose of green tea. These nutrients help to purify the skin with antioxidants while  iridiscent particles bounce light off the face.

TIP: Mix MAC Strobe Cream with your favourtie BB cream or tinted moisturiser. Remember we’re going for a post-workout look so minimal makeup is key.

If you do, however, wish to wear your normal amount of makeup and an illuminating moisturiser like MAC’s Strobe Cream won’t suffice, a setting spray is your next best bet and we love the Clarins Fix Make-up Refreshing Mist (R305 at selected Clarins counters).

With this look we want to steer clear of powders so for blush, we suggest opting for a cream blush. We love the Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Plum Wine (R89.95 at Clicks and Dis-Chem pharmacies), which is suitable for all complexions and lends the perfect blushing look. For rosy nude lips, we love the Clinique Chubby Stick in Roomiest Rose (R230 at selected Clinique retailers nationwide).

Sleek, chic and wet-look hair

As 2014 came to end, we saw a lot of women donning long and sleek low ponytails. Although this hairstyle has been around since the dawn of time, it’s safe to say that this look has been modernised with a wet finish, making it sophisticated and elegant enough for dinner dates and evening functions.

TIP: Only hair gel or wax is needed to create this look. Begin by applying a small amount of gel to the hair and applying more when needed. To achieve this look, we recommend Garnier Fructis Style Super Stiff Gel (R89.95). Melt the gel with a blow dryer and work into your desired style before allowing the gel to set.
