Rock Our Top Three Runway Looks

It’s Spring fashion show season and the catwalks have thrown us a few curve-balls in the form of brown eyeshadow; an updated bold lip, and au naturale, minimalist makeup dominating the shows. The sun may only be shining in the Northern Hemisphere, but these three fresh looks may just help us brave the cold snap down South…

1. Brown-eyed girls
Black’s wallflower cousin is stepping out of the shadows and finally getting the attention she deserves for her chic versatility. Brown eyeshadow may seem a bit ‘meh’ in your mind, but this universally flattering shade has the power to make any peepers pop.

• For an effortless look that will buy you more time with your bed, dust a light neutral brown on the lid and a darker brown in the crease.
• Run a little rich chocolate brown shadow under your lower lashline for sultry, smouldering eyes.
• Achieve a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed look by tightlining your eyes to define lashes, then pack a slightly shimmery, warm copper on your eyelids for an instant glow.

NUDE

Get the look with:
Catrice Absolute Nude Eyeshadow Palette (R 89.95; Dis-Chem).
Elizabeth Arden Eyeshadow Singles in Shimmering Copper (R 215; Red Square).
LA Girl Gel Glide Eyeliner Pencil in Brown (R 59.95; Dis-Chem).

2. The new bold lip
We’re no strangers to the bold winter lip, but the Spring runway has provided a fresh take on the seasonal staple with a stained sultry berry shade – as if you’ve just eaten a punnet of blackberries – and a juicy orange-red that’s creamy in texture.

• Opt for a deep berry lipstick or liner by avoiding anything glossy. Gently press a small amount of product onto your lips with your finger and blend. Apply colour little by little until you have your desired effect.
• Orange-red lipstick is best in a matte formulation as it provides ultra-pigmented and long-lasting colour.

 rimmel

Get the look with:

Rimmel Provocalips 16hr Kiss Proof Lip Colour in shade 230 Kiss Fatal (R 99; Dis-Chem).
Smashbox Be Legendary Lipstick in Fireball Matte (R 240; Woolworths).

3. Bare minimum
Spring 2015 runways proved that a gorgeous ‘lit-from-within’ look never goes out of style. The trend towards bare-faced beauty was also the theme of Jackie Burger’s trendspotting Salon58 event, in which we learned that this season it’s all about ‘revealing the person behind the face rather than smothering her in cakey foundation and overdone blush’.

• There’s no time like the present to get your glow on and moisture-rich foundation is your friend. Matte formulas are too drying and dull for the winter months.
• When it comes to lip colour, dusky rose is the perfect winter warmer that won’t wash you out.

MAC

Get the look with:
MAC Mineralize Moisture Foundation (R 375; MAC stores).
Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in shade 705 Let’s Get Naked (R 99; Dis-Chem).
