Budget-friendly hair DIY’s you need to try…

Food. You can do so much more than just eat it. Your kitchen houses some of the most potent ingredients your hair needs to survive this season’s wet and windy weather.

Avocado; Apple Cider Vinegar and most of the oils in your pantry are beneficial to healthy hair growth and maintenance. So, if you’re low on cash and home with a bad hair day, give these trusty DIY’s a try.

apple cider vinegar1. APPLE CIDER VINEGAR HAIR RINSE

Raw or unfiltered, Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) is an excellent final rinse for hair, ridding your tresses of residue and your (dry) scalp of dandruff.

METHOD: Mix ½ cup of raw or unfiltered ACV into ½ a cup of water. Pour it on your head and massage into hair and scalp with fingers. Rinse with warm water to remove.
 

2. AVOCADO MASK

Enriched with essential fats, avocado’s make for terrific conditioners.

Avocado Hair MaskAfrocentric hair  is hungry for intense moisture and nourishment throughout winter so apply this mask before your usual shampoo and condition.

METHOD: Mash avocado’s into a paste with a fork and coat your hair using your hands. Rinse thoroughly after 15-20 minutes.

OR, take your DIY skills up a notch and add 1 tablespoon of softened raw coconut oil and a ¼ teaspoon of Vitamin E (or 2-3 Vitamin E capsules carefully split to drain the oil).

3. OLIVE AND COCONUT OIL DEEP CONDITION

Coconut oil is a natural conditioner for hair and can also be used to treat dry scalp and fungal conditions that cause itchy flaking.

natural frizzy hair remedies 5The molecular structure of coconut oil makes it easy to penetrate through the hair shaft allowing it to work well with natural hair protiens.
 
METHOD: Mix ½ a cup of virgin coconut oil and ½ of coconut oil together into a bowl. Parting your hair into four sections, carefully apply the oils onto your head from root to tip. Cover your head using a plastic shower cap and sit for an hour finally rinsing with warm water and shampoo or co-wash.
