We chat to industry expert Andrew Guilfoyle from Scar Hair about keeping tresses frizz-free this winter.

And now for today’s hair day forecast: Capetonians can expect drenched, windswept tresses this morning, with a high chance of frizz in the afternoon…

‘Electrocution survivor’ is never a look to aspire to – even on the liberal streets of Cape Town. So, we asked Andrew Guilfoyle, stylist and co-owner of the legendary SCAR Hair on Cape Town’s Kloof Street (the infamous birthplace of Die Antwoord’s zef haircuts) to tell us how to save ourselves from a season’s worth of bad hair.

His response: Leave-in conditioner. “In the rainy months, switch your conditioner to a leave-in one. This will help with taming frizz and controlling moisture you may encounter after a quick walk in the rain”.

And what about a more heavy-duty solution?

“You could also opt for a cutting-edge anti-frizz treatment like an Evolution Keratin or Agave Treatment (R400 to R2000, depending on hair length and thickness) – an Argan-infused keratin treatment available in five different strengths that treats hair while reducing unwanted curl and frizz.”

Andrew also recommends stocking up on the best quality home hair care products we can afford:
“Lately I’ve been recommending Sim Argan Care Vitalizing Shampoo and Balm (R 305 each, Scar) which are infused with Argan oil to moisturises and protect while cleansing. Next up, Sebastian Potion 9 (R 420 , Scar), a three-in-one heat protectant treatment, styling aid and dehumidifier is probably one of the best products in the world; and lastly, Label M Therapy Age Defying Protein Cream (R 370, Scar) is the ultimate winter frizz buster – a light-weight serum with smoothing white caviar that rejuvenates hair cells”.
