We’ve switched out the pinks and florals of our summer wardrobes, so now it’s time to turn our attentions to our makeup looks. While peachy nude lips are making way for deep plum and berry hues, pastel manicures are being replaced by shades that have ‘dark and dangerous’ written all over them, taking their cue from Europe’s Autumn/Winter 2015 catwalk collections. Models walking for Marissa Webb’s Fall collection rocked oxblood red mani’s; Rebecca Minkoff’s runway look was all deep plum and black, while Vera Wang opted for a subtler dark grey.

We’ve also spotted a catwalk trend towards pimping the classic mani with eye-catching nail art. The Zimmerman Fall collection saw models sporting a graphic print in dark oxblood, while The Blonds featured an intricate black lattice pattern. We recommend layering two colours for a richer shade, or reinterpreting the classic French manicure in contrasting shades.

TOP POLISHES TO TRY:

1. Morgan Taylor in The Big Reveal (R123, pharmacies nationwide): From the Midnight Masquerade Collection, this colour is rich in emerald glitter with a black undertone.

2. GOSH Nail Lacquer in Nero (R79, pharmacies nationwide): Not only is this a fast-drying nail polish, but it also free from formaldehydes. Yes to non-toxic manicures!

3. L.A Girl Gold Studs Nail Kit (R49.95, DisChem): Contains everything you need to create the ultimate black manicure including gold nail art and a gold sparkle top coat.
