5 Minutes With Salon Owner Chanel Bettison

chanel bettison interview july 2015

Who doesn’t love a bit of girly pampering?

BB managing editor Lori Mauerberger and I were recently treated to a Winter Special Promotion package (R450 for 90 minutes) that included a mini manicure and pedicure combo; neck, back and shoulder massage, at Cape Town’s Chanel Bettison Hair and Beauty Concept Store.

You can read more about our treatments here, and take inspiration from salon owner Chanel below…

What is your beauty background?

I studied makeup and hair with Carl Isaacs before furthering my studies at Kohl Makeup Academy.

What inspired you to start your current business?

International travel and trends I experienced firsthand in cities like London, Paris and New York. I strive to combine the peace and serenity of places like Bali and exotic Asian islands I’ve visited with vibrant urban living.

What do clients love most about your establishment?

The fact that it’s an innovative beauty space catering to all the essential beauty needs of today’s woman under one roof. It’s ideal for urban women on the move.

I’m a perfectionist and passionate about the beauty industry, and my team of beauty specialists work to a very high standard. We offer our clients a unique experience – from the fact that we offer stress-free complimentary parking on Heritage Square, to being able to  enjoy a cup of tea or some bubbly with your treatment.

Your top hair and beauty trends this season?

I love the fishtail braid because you can change it up for any occasion. I’m also a fan of the “bare minimum” beauty trend that’s all about glowing skin, nude lips, and dramatic smoky eyes with lots of mascara.

Who are your beauty icons?

Right now it’s Charlotte Tilbury. I also take beauty inspiration from Pinterest, and flipping through Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue.

Which beauty products are your handbag staples?

My MAC Strobe Cream (R410, MAC counters and Edgars, Foschini, Truworths); Charlotte Tilbury Nude lip pencil, lipstick and lip gloss (not currently available in SA), and Benefit’s ‘They’re Real’ mascara (R295, Edgars and Red Square).

Chanel Bettison Hair and Beauty Concept Store offers Make-up, Hair, Nails, Facials, Chemical Peels, Waxing, Massage, Botox, Teeth Whitening, Eyelash Extensions and Spray Tan.
