PIGMENTATION POINTERS

Our moderate SA climate exposes us to pigmentation-aggravating harsh sunlight on a daily basis. Darker-skinned BB’s are particularly at risk, because richer skin tones contain more pigment, an overproduction of which results in annoying dark patches.

1. BE SUN SAVVY
Sun exposure can cause dark marks and darken the appearance of existing ones. Always protect your skin with an SPF-containing daily moisturiser.

2. SLEEP TIGHT
Dark under-eye circles and other beauty no-no’s can be attributed to lack of sleep. Shoot for at least seven hours a night.

3. EAT RIGHT
Swap sugary snacks for nutritious and delicious ones, like easy-to-eat and anti-oxidant rich red berries.

4. SCRUB UP
Breakouts and blemishes can leave dark marks behind, so never skip out on your twice-daily cleansing regime. Also, moisturisers work best when applied to a perfectly cleansed complexion.

SHINE CRISIS CONTROL

In healthy skin, sebaceous glands produce just enough oil to naturally lubricate the complexion. But, too much of a good thing is a bad thing, and overproduction of oil results in greasiness and unsightly excessive shine.

1. HANDS OFF!
Touching your face can over-stimulate oil glands and spread icky breakout- inducing bacteria.

2. GET FRESH
When it comes to skin, what you put in is what you get out, so eat clean and replace over-processed oil and sugar-laden foods with fresh fruit and vegetables.

3. BE MOISTURE-WISE
Moisturise! Shiny skin still needs adequate moisture. If the upper layer of the skin dries out, the lower level overcompensates by producing more oil – and more shine! Opt for a light, non-greasy moisturiser that won’t clog pores.
