Colour B4 Extra Strength hair colour remover is the safest and most effective way to remove an undesirable hair colour.

Colour B4 shrinks the artificial dye molecules in the hair, enabling you to simply wash them away. What’s more Colour B4 does not touch your natural hair pigment so you are left with the colour which lay beneath your artificial shade. Colour B4 takes you back to your lightest shade. It will return your hair to its natural colour if the artificial hair colour applied is darker than your natural level.

If the artificial hair colour applied is lighter than your natural colour, the natural pigment within your hair has been chemically lightened. Although Colour B4 will remove the artificial dye, you will still notice your natural hair colour has lightened. In this situation (and to re-create your natural shade) simply select a hair colorant close to your own natural depth and tone. However, always select by one shade lighter than your (natural) depth to ensure a realistic result.

Colour B4 uses a reduction agent formula. The chemical is able to enter the hair shaft and shrink the permanent colour molecule so it can be flushed out with washing. Because the active ingredient only works on artificial colour molecules it does not affect the true ‘natural’ colour of the hair.

What is Permanent (and semi permanent) hair colour?

A permanent hair colourant deposits artificial colour molecules into the hair which are expanded by oxygen introduced into the hair shaft by peroxide. All permanent and semi permanent hair colours use peroxide to create the colour result. True permanent hair colours cannot be removed from the hair by simply washing (as temporary colours can), due to these expanded artificial colour molecules being trapped inside the hair shaft.

The Hair Colour Remover Concept

Permanent hair colour removers are designed to eradicate the artificial hair colour from the hair shaft. However it’s vital to understand there are two types of colour remover:-

1) A Colour Remover or ‘Reverser’

This formula contains 1 active ingredient which is a reduction agent. The chemical is able to enter the hair shaft and shrink the permanent colour molecule so it can be flushed out with washing. Because the active ingredient only works on artificial colour molecules it does not affect the true ‘natural’ colour of the hair.

2) A Colour ‘Stripper’

This formula is bleach based, when applied to the hair it literally strips away everything it comes into contact with. Whilst it can effectively remove the artificial colour pigment what it also does it destroy the natural pigment and hair fibres leaving the natural hair colour lightened (typically orange) and very dry and often damaged.

Why would a Colour Removal product use bleach?

Bleach based colour removal works well for professionals and salons as they can monitor the hair & quickly wipe away all colour (without necessity for repeat applications) and then re-colour the hair using the correct depths and tones to disguise any brassyness.

Why is bleach based Colour Removal a disaster for home users?

It lightens everything! In most cases the consumer ends up with a dreadful patchy orange hair colour and most importantly their own natural shade (which was sat underneath the permanent colour they wanted rid of) has been destroyed. They are sometimes unable to disguise the orange with another colour and often need to visit a salon anyway to repair the damage they have done.

Why are reduction agent removers better for the home consumer?

Because they are safe, they only remove the artificial pigment molecule meaning the consumer is left with a natural base to work with. They are less drying on the hair and processing is controlled (meaning the active ingredient stops working after time – whilst bleach will continue to lighten).

What are the negatives to using a reduction agent remover?

Apart from the odour (which resembles perming lotion) The only negative is its controlled level of colour reversal. On heavy built up colour (caused by multiple colourants) several applications may be required to remove the colour. However, for home use this approach is far safer than using a bleach which is volatile on the hair.
