Women and men of all ages, be alerted to and do not ignore any sudden breast changes as it could be indicative of a more serious underlying problem:
• Swelling under the armpit
• Lump in the breast area
• Puckering of the skin (looks like cellulite)
• Normal outward nipple suddenly becoming inverted
• Swelling of glands
• Swelling of upper arm
• One breast increasing in size
• Change to the nipple area
• One breast and nipple suddenly lower than other
PinkDrive currently runs two “Pink” mobile breast check units – 1 in Gauteng & 1 in Western Cape that offers free services to medically un-insured women in the community. The educational unit travels to semi-urban areas around Gauteng with the aim of enabling various disadvantaged communities access to clinical breast examinations and breast health education performed by nurses – we service x80 community health clinics on a rotation basis. The mobile mammography unit operates 3 days in every week at local Community Health Clinics in the Western Cape where x25 free mammograms are offered daily:
1. Macassar Clinic (every Monday)
2. Kleinvlei CHC (every Tuesday)
3. Gustrouw CHC (every Wednesday)
In just over 2 year, since inception in August 2009 – the PinkDrive mobile teams have:
1. Educated: 24,223
2. Clinical examined: 18,710
3. Mammograms: 2,634
